1. Introduction

Welcome to Stratum ("we", "our", or "us"). We operate the Stratum mobile application (the "App") — a student productivity tool designed to help you study with focus and intention. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

By using the App you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the service.

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and a hashed password. We do not require your real name, date of birth, or any government-issued identifier.

App-generated data

As you use the App, the following data is created and stored in your account:

• Subjects, subject names, and colours you create
• Assessments and due dates you add
• Study sessions (start time, end time, duration, subject, and timer mode)
• Tasks you create or complete during sessions
• Study streak count and last study date

Usage and diagnostic data

We may collect anonymised crash reports and basic usage analytics (e.g. which screens are visited most frequently) to diagnose bugs and improve the App. This data is not linked to your identity.

Payment information

Subscription payments are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment card details.

Device information

We may collect non-identifying device metadata such as operating system version and device model to ensure compatibility.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

• Provide, maintain, and personalise the App's core features
• Authenticate your account and keep it secure
• Calculate and display your study statistics and streaks
• Verify your subscription status via RevenueCat
• Send you transactional emails (e.g. password reset) — never marketing without explicit consent
• Diagnose crashes and improve performance

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Supabase, a cloud database provider. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest. Access to your data is governed by row-level security policies that ensure only you can read or modify your own records.

No security system is impenetrable. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers: Supabase (database hosting), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Apple/Google (payment processing). Each provider is contractually bound to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
• Business transfer: If Stratum is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new entity under the same or stronger privacy protections.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data and app-generated content associated with your account is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Anonymised, aggregated analytics data (not linked to your identity) may be retained indefinitely.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Object to certain processing of your data
• Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format)

8. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.

9. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g. the App Store). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email or an in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
